(Left) Hermès Paris: the ultimate gentleman’s desk accessory, (on left) a hyper-rare leather and silver-plated desk compendium known as a ‘Weather station’, designed by Paul Dupré-Lafon (1900 – 1971) for Hermès, Paris. The stepped base section is covered in red hand-stitched leather, the five-sided compendium featuring a clock, compass, barometer, thermometer and perpetual calendar.
Height: 5 inches (13 cm), base 6 inches (15 cm) square.

(Right) Also by Hermès, its counterpart in heavy silver-plated bronze, with similar functions including compass, thermometer, barometer, hygrometer and clock, the heavy case with bracket feet, and thick bevelled glasses to the face of each instrument. French, circa 1930’s.
