Founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy in 1963, the brand’s iconic golden Taurus logo reflected not only the founder’s birth sign, but also his fascination for bullfighting which was the result of a meeting with a world-renowned breeder of Spanish fighting bulls, Eduardo Miura in 1962. Many of Lamborghini’s designs were named after famous fighting bulls, (as well as the breeder himself) and visual comparisons have been drawn between the Taurus on the logo and the Cavallino Rampante of Ferrari. This was not accidental, as there was always seen to be a tangible rivalry between the two Italian marques.
