Notes:
P J Ashmore was born in Coventry and his early working life was spent in the motor industry styling car bodies. With colleagues, he designed and made the model prototype of the Car of the Future for the Festival of Britain in 1951. Ashmore has more recently turned his attention to sporting subjects: cricket, golf, motoring and tennis. The larger pieces take the form of montages and depict past and present sporting personalities as well as vignettes of famous sporting venues and sporting memorabilia.

He has a marvellous facility with watercolour and his technique in laying down washes, etc. is quite effortless, as is his drawing. These features of his work, plus his strong sense of design, are what make his paintings so distinctive and inimitable.
