Hermès, Paris

A very unusual Modernist box designed by Paul Dupré-Lafon (French, 1900- 1971) for Hermès, the body of the silver-plated box features curved rails to each end, and similarly designed handles which lift open the double calfskin lid with sprung hinges. The box has a plain silvered interior with single, movable divider and can be used in a multitude of ways – a cigar box, playing card box or just a stylish desk accessory. Marked HERMÈS PARIS in gold inside the right lid. French, circa 1940s.

Size: 8 x 5 x 1½ inches (20 x 13 x 4 cm)
