Jugs by Los Castillo, Mexico

Two artisanal generations are illustrated by an extremely stylish silver-plated pitcher or jug, in the form of a stylised bird (left), featuring vivid green-stone eyes and handles. Marked Emilia Castillo Mexico to the base with registration marks. Mexican, circa 1960s. Emilia ‘Mimi’ Castillo is the daughter of the founder of the Los Castillo firm of silversmiths, Mexico’s most renowned silver artisans since 1939.

(Right) A very charming Sterling silver jug, with a rounded body and hammered finish, and perched on the lip of the jug and acting as the handle, a stylized toucan in silver with green-stone detailing and a gilt-tipped beak. Stamped to the base 925 and bearing the marker’s marks for Los Castillo Silversmiths. Mexican, circa 1950s.
