‘Gunboat’ by Radiguet, c. 1890

A superb live-steam toy gunboat, circa 1890 in fine original condition, the boat mounted on a wooden stand.

Length overall: 20 inches (50 cms).

Additional Notes: Radiguet (later Radiguet-Massiot) was one of the most celebrated French toy-boat makers. They specialized in scientific teaching aids and began making steam-powered toy boats in the 1880s. Although this remained a sideline, their toy boats are some of the most sought-after, characterized by their black- and gold-painted hulls with wood and brass fittings
