‘Ferrari 500 F2’

A heavy cast, all-aluminium pylon racer made by the French toy company Vega, featuring exhaust and hubcap detailing, with side mirrors, steering wheel and stylized ‘windshield’ and powered by a rear-axle driven, 5cc glow plug petrol engine with soft-rubber tyres. These racers were usually made with a plain finish and were intended to then be ‘customized’ by their owners, by either painting them or by applying decals. French, circa 1952.
