Wilhelm Friedrich Burger (Swiss, 1882-1964): ‘Engadiner Skirenen St. Moritz 13.14.15. Februar 1914’. An exceptional and very rare original poster depicting skiers outside a typical ski chalet. Linen mounted and framed.

Dimensions: 40 x 25 inches (70 x 100 cms).

Additional Notes: Burger was born in Zurich in 1882. His father, Heinrich, was a successful printer of maps and decorative prints, and Wilhelm was sent to Karlsruhe in German to study lithography in the late 1890s. He also studied for two years in the USA before returning to Switzerland in 1903.

Concentrating on poster design in the years before 1914, he then became more active as a painter and book illustrator, as well as running the family firm. His poster output continued sporadically, until the mid-1950s, and his last known poster was for the resort of Interlaken, created in 1956 when he was 76 years of age.
