‘Coupe Gordon Bennett’

An important, large bronze wall plaque depicting a winged Goddess of Speed at the wheel of an early motor car, by Jacques Callot (French, 1880-1945), the border with finely detailed floral decoration, and impressed signature of CALLOT in the bronze. French, circa 1903.

Additional Notes: Jacques Callot was born in the town of Blaru in Northern France. A student of René Gaulthier-Ponscarme, Callot wonthe Grand Prix of the sculpture category of the Salon des Beaux-Arts in 1898, at the age of only 18.
