Edward McKnight Kauffer (American, 1890-1954)

‘American Airlines, Mexico’.

Original travel advertising poster circa 1950, showing a Mexican man carrying a birdcage on his back, with the birds inside in ‘cut-out’, two dimensional form, clearly a nod to works being created by Henri Matisse around that time, an artist who proved to have a lifelong creative influence on Kauffer’s work.

Conservation linen mounted and unframed.

Size: 41 x 32 inches (105 x 80 cm)
