A streamlined ‘Pylon’ or ‘Tether’ model racing car, of all-aluminium construction with original red painted details and treaded rubber tyres. These model cars were powered by miniature internal combustion engines and raced on indoor tracks when ‘tethered’ to a central post. Unlike remote control racing cars, the operator (or driver) would have no real control over the steering or the cars speed. Surviving in lovely, original condition, the model dates to the early 1950s, and closely resembles the 1951 Formula 1 Alfa-Romeo Alfetta 159, as raced by World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio (1911-1995).

Length: 13 inches (33 cm)
