A magnificent and highly unusual Art Deco gilded Sterling silver and enamel pillbox, the exterior with bands of fine engine-turning to all sides and a decoration of bands of black enamel, with the Austro-Daimler logo to the lid. The body of the box with a cut-corner design and decorative beaded edging, opens to reveal the interior of the lid with enamel panel depicting a classic stylized Art Deco Austro-Daimler racing car in scarlet against a black ground. The interior of the box is stamped ‘MADE IN AUSTRIA, STERLING’, with registration marks, the enamel panel signed F. Zwickl. Austrian, circa 1928. With a bespoke, burgundy calfskin fitted presentation case. This is the only example of a pillbox variant of the cigarette case design, that we have ever seen.
