Gordon Horner (British, 1915-2006)
'A Rolls-Royce in Winter, 1945'
A charming original watercolour depicting a Rolls-Royce Phantom III 'Inskip' coupé conveying its occupants home through the snow, with their Christmas tree strapped to the roof! Their destination, a welcoming country house, can be seen, with wood smoke curling lazily from the chimney. Framed with an acid-free mount and a plain black oak frame.
Size: 24 x 30 inches (60 x 76 cm)
Gordon Horner created this work in December 1945, and we understand it was illustrated in a Christmas issue of ‘The Motor’ magazine. He joined ‘The Autocar’ magazine in 1946, the last ‘house artist’ on the title, and remained there until his retirement in 1980. Horner’s works were usually monochrome, making this larger-than-average coloured piece desirable. Horner enjoyed a long retirement, eventually passing on in 2006 at the age of 94.
