‘Westy’s’ by M. Fiot, c.1930

A superb pair of bronze bookends depicting West Highland terriers in different poses, exquisitely cast using the cire perdue (lost wax) process, signed by the sculptor (Maximilian Fiot (French 1886-1953)) and bearing the foundry mark for the eminent foundry Susse Fr’res, Paris. French c.1930.

Height: 7 inches (17 cms).

Additional Notes: Fiot was a pupil of the great French sculptor Prosper Lecouter, and first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1910. Although he described himself as an animalier sculptor, he is best known for his expressive and charming canine bronzes, such as these bookends.
