Large ‘Zeppelin’ by J.A. Henckels, 1930s
‘Zeppelin’ travelling cocktail set.
An extremely rare, possibly unique ‘Zeppelin’ cocktail shaker set of massive proportions, the main body acting as the cocktail shaker, the gilt-lined nose-cone removes to reveal a shaker with integral strainer/juicer and cap and containing two large semi-circular hipflasks with screw caps, the removable ‘undercarriage’ contains five cocktail spoons, and the screw-off tailplane contains a gilt lined olive dish and cover, a funnel, a corkscrew with screw-off cover and six gilt-lined shot cups of graduating size. Circa 1930s.
Dimensions: Height overall: 18 inches (45 cms).
Additional Notes: The famous Henckels ‘Zeppelin’ cocktail shaker series began with the classic 12 inch (30 cm) version in 1926, and was followed by the compact 9 inch (23 cm) version the following year. ‘Airplane’ versions of both sizes – basically the same form but with detachable ‘wings’ and wheeled undercarriage – were then introduced. This giant 18 inches (45 cm) version is thought to be the only example of this size, possibly made for exhibition purposes.
