Tinplate toy by Johann Distler, circa 1925

An incredibly rare tinplate racing car toy by Johann Distler, with highly unusual, hammered bronze finish, almost resembling galuchat (shagreen) with driver in traditional driving attire, lithographed ‘Balloon-Tyres 775 x 145’ with side mounted spare and working headlamps and clockwork mechanism, in extraordinary original condition. German, circa 1925.

Length: 13 inches (33 cm), height: 5 inches (13 cm).

Additional Notes: The company Johann Distler KG was established in Nurenburg in Germany in 1895. The Distler company started as a penny-toy manufacturer and specialized in lithographed tin toys. Distler's range of products comprised of over 500 items, the most famous being the street organ player.
