Original painting '1939 Le Mans 24 hours'

A large and evocative painting of the start of the final prewar Le Mans endurance race, staged on June 17th/18th 1939. The all-conquering supercharged Bugatti Type 57c ‘Tank’ was piloted by Jean-Pierre Wimille and Pierre Veyron (pictured to the foreground and later key members of the resistance in Occupied France). Signed A.L’ami G. Muller and dated 1939.

Mounted in a superb Macassar ebony frame with a patterned gesso slip.
