René Vincent (1879-1936)

An extraordinarily rare, original large-format poster dated 1912. Conservation linen mounted, and unframed.

Poster size: 63 x 48 inches (160 x 120 cm)

René Vincent’s passion and love of great automobiles is clearly evident both from his life and his paintings. He was the first French citizen to hold a driving licence, and his Paris house was one of the world’s first residences to boast an integral garage. This is arguably his most dramatic work, the exaggerated perspective emphasising the power and speed of the great car. The diagonal lines representing the cars shadow on the road give the impression that the car is actually flying, and Vincent has skilfully used the cloud of white dust thrown up behind as the central part of the “Tricolore”.
