Alfred Dunhill, England: a superb and extraordinarily scarce, 18 ct gold Dunhill ‘Unique ‘A’ Sports’ combination windproof lighter and pocket watch, of singular quality, the first edition of this model was made in 1927, but did not feature in Dunhill’s catalogues until 1928.
To the front, a fully serviced pocket watch, and to the reverse a well-observed engraving of an Asian elephant against a background of bamboo with palm trees and domed minarets in the distance. With English gold marks to the base and dated 1928, and in a bespoke fitted Alfred Dunhill presentation case.
Height: 2 inches (5 cms).
Illustrated in ‘The Dunhill Petrol Lighter – A Unique Story’ by Blei and Bottoni,(2004), the definitive reference work on the Dunhill lighter. This lighter would have retailed for £44 in 1928.
