‘Skeleton’ Clock by ATO, c. 1925

A monumental glass and chrome Art Deco ‘Skeleton’ mantle clock by ATO, French circa 1925, with Art Deco numerals and hands, with distinctive ‘bowl’ to each end. With battery mechanism.

Height overall: 12 inches (32 cms).

Additional Notes: ATO was a company established in the 1920s by Léon Hatot (1883-1953). Trading under the name ‘ATO’ from 1923, electric clocks were produced in a partially rebuilt factory in the rue de la Rotonde in Besancon. They were an immediate unprecedented success in the market place. At the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs in 1925, Léon Hatot won a Grand Prix for a whole range of electric clocks, housed in marble, chrome, marquetry and fine wood cases, even in some instances in cases of moulded glass from the famous Lalique factories. Léon Hatot company still functions as a watchmaker, trading under the umbrella of the Swatch group.
