Fratelli Sanesi, of 53 Via Bassini, Milan

A dramatic, stylized Art Deco presentation trophy cup, the gently tapered cup with bright, gilded interior is supported by three heavy cast silver birds of prey sitting on an angular green Baroda marble plinth with splayed foot, their wings creating the supports. Most likely commissioned as an aviation or sporting trophy, Sanesi Brothers of Milan were best known for producing sporting awards and enamel commemorative pieces in the Italian Art Deco style from their 53 Via Bassini store in Milan. Bearing three stamped fixings to the underside, with the birds of prey bearing Italian silver marks. Italian, circa 1930.
