Macassar Art Deco table with shagreen, 1930
An opulent Art Deco centre table of palatial proportions, the heavy and superbly-figured macassar ebony table top with large galuchat (shagreen) star design to the centre surrounded by stringing, is supported by six swept legs which terminate in a stepped base with a scalloped plinth and gilded frieze. Very much in the style of the great Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933), this fine and substantial and highly decorative table dates to around 1930.
