Maxim Machine Gun, circa 1930

A fine example of a Maxim machine gun, complete with stand and all original detailing. The aluminium and steel has been stripped back and polished to leave an attractive patina. The firing pin has been decommissioned, a single dummy ammunition belt and box complete a very special object, c. 1930s.

Additional Notes: The Maxim gun was the first self powered machine that used the recoil from the discharge to load the next round. The gun was invented by an American named Sir Hiram Stevens Maxim in 1884. It is most associated with British colonial warfare (1884-1914), however it served right up until the 1950s.
