WWII Japanese navy long-range binoculars

An extraordinary and very rare pair of WWII Japanese navy long-range binoculars, of massive 40 x 120 specifications, the polished cast aluminium base of binnacle form, is fully adjustable, and is complete with fully original eye shades and transportation crate. Japanese, circa 1940s. Manufactured by Nikko (predecessor to Nikon).

This instrument has been completely stripped of its original paint, and re-polished back to the original metal.

Dimensions: Height: 60 inches (153 cms), diameter of footprint: 20 inches (50 cms).

Nikon Corporation was established in 25 July 1917 when three leading optical manufacturers merged to form a comprehensive fully integrated optical company known as Nippon Kogaku Tokyo K.K. Over the next sixty years, this growing company became a manufacturer of optical lenses (including those for the first Canon cameras) and equipment used in cameras, binoculars, microscopes and inspection equipment. During World War II the company grew to nineteen factories and 23,000 employees, supplying items such as binoculars, lenses, bomb sights, and periscopes to the Japanese military.
