Italian Art Deco aviation trophy, 1920

Fratelli Sanesi, of 53 Via Bassini, Milan

An incredibly striking and unusual presentation trophy cup, the gently tapered cup with gilded interior is supported by three heavy cast silver birds of prey sitting on an original triangular green Baroda marble plinth with splayed angular foot, their wings creating the supports. Most likely commissioned as an aviation or sporting trophy, Sanesi Brothers of Milan were best known for producing sporting awards and enamel commemorative pieces in the Italian Art Deco style from their Via Bassini store in Milan. Bearing three stamped fixings to the underside. Italian, circa 1930.
