An incredibly rare tinplate racing car toy by Johann Distler, with highly unusual, hammered bronze finish, almost resembling galuchat (shagreen) with driver in traditional driving attire, lithographed ‘Balloon-Tyres 775 x 145’ with side mounted spare and working headlamps and clockwork mechanism, in extraordinary original condition. German, circa 1925.

Length: 13 inches (33 cm), height: 5 inches (13 cm).

Additional Notes: The company Johann Distler KG was established in Nurenburg in Germany in 1895. The Distler company started as a penny-toy manufacturer and specialized in lithographed tin toys. Distler’s range of products comprised of over 500 items, the most famous being the street organ player.
